The rhizomes of the plant differ from species to species varying in color, weight, form and size. On average, however, they weigh about 450 grams.
They are sent free of dirt and properly disinfected according to set standards.
Each rhizome is carefully packed in damp newspaper so that it won't get damaged during shipment.
Plant the rhizome as soon as possible. Notice the line of photosynthesis. Plant the rhizome in earth up to this line so that you don't bury it too superfically or deeply.
Cover the upper part, or tip, of the rhizome with a disposable cup or something similar to protect it to diminish the risk of spoiling.Plant it directly in the earth during rainy seasons or in plastic bags during dry summer seasons.
In the first few months, heliconias are very sensitive to direct sunlight. For this reason, it is recommended that you put them in a semi-shady place. If later you intend to put them in direct sunlight, do this little by little to avoid burns due to a sudden change into direct sunlight.
Keep the soil humid and free of weeds for at least the first 5 months. After this time, the plant will begin to create a humid micro-ecosystem at the root level to protect it during dry periods.
